Every year from mid-November to mid-January, Karen Kearney, the owner of Picture This Frame Shop & Gallery, hosts a holiday group show for local artists. Invited artists can display up to three pictures, including photographs and paintings. These are the two paintings I selected this year… one for the ‘Gator fans and the other for the beach lovers. (If you stop by the shop, please feel free to take one my complimentary greeting cards :)
This type of collaboration between independent artists, business owners, and organizations is very prevalent in our community. From hair salons to medical facilities, restaurants and farmer’s markets, the number of venues and overall support for the fine arts is continual throughout the year. Additionally, many local artists participate in fundraising events and charitable organizations. It is inspiring to see how each works together!
I believe that keeping art in front of people does several things. It increases environmental awareness, stimulates conversations, and cultivates a community of mutual support and collaboration. Even when we play a seemingly small role in delivering the message of unity, it filters through on a larger scale, especially when many entities are linked together.
